Join Queerly ME, Bangor Pride, and Hirundo Wildlife Refuge for a community building weekend centering LGBTQIA+ folks in Bangor and surrounding areas! Exact locations for each program will be disclosed to those who complete registration.
Our weekend kicks off with a Queer Ecology walk led by Brianna Guy of Hirundo Wildlife Refuge. This guided walk offers a welcoming and affirming space to connect with nature and community. Along the trail, a naturalist, Brianna Guy, will share fascinating stories and science about queerness in nature, highlighting the incredible diversity that exists across species and ecosystems. Whether you are an avid hiker or simply enjoy a leisurely stroll, all are welcome to join this joyful and inclusive outdoor experience.
Brianna Guy is the Program Director at Hirundo Wildlife Refuge in Old Town, where she works to connect people of all ages with nature through science education and conservation programs. Brianna earned her BA in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Maine, Orono.
We will begin our walk at 5:30pm and wrap up around 6:30pm. The path we will utilize is paved, approximately 10 feet wide, less than 5% incline, and regularly maintained. Our Queer Ecology walk will be ticketed on a sliding scale from $10 to $25. If you are in need of financial aid, please reach out to info@queerlyme.org to request a funded spot. No one will ever be turned away for lack of funds.
Following our Queer Ecology walk, we will gather for an evening of Spring Equinox activities around a firepit including paper burning rituals, letter writing, seed ball creation, and tarot card reading. Warm drinks, snacks, and s’mores will be provided including GF and Vegan options. The campus we are gathering on will be wheelchair accessible. Our Spring Equinox gathering will be suggested donation.
The next day, March 21st, we will provide our Cultivating Connection training nearby in Holden. Learn about the decline of community spaces, the public health epidemic of loneliness and isolation, and how we can collectively revitalize opportunities for affirming, inclusive social connection to improve societal well-being. Due to the scope of Queerly ME's work, this training will in part focus on the LGBTQIA+ community and outdoor equity. The campus we are gathering on will be wheelchair accessible. Our training will be suggested donation.
Masks will be offered at each program. If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, please stay home for the sake of keeping our community healthy! Thank you.
